Sectarian
is a Dutch metalband formed in the summer of ‘95 under the name
of KICKSHAW. The band, back then, primarily played covers of bands like
Metallica en Iron Maiden. After a few changes in line-up the band got
the chance to record their debut-album in 1999, containing only self
written material. The result came out in march of 2000 entitled ‘When
darkness draws near”. By then the name of the band was already replaced
by SECTARIAN. On this album the variety of musical influences (mostly
metal) of the bandmembers can be heard. Styles of metal that vary from
thrash metal to death metal.
A few months after the debut-CD came out
Pascal Bastings left the band due to differences in musical conception
and the musical course that
was to be followed. SECTARIAN again had no front man. A temporary replacement
was found in the person of Mike Scheijen who left SECTARIAN again soon
to work with his own band again (37 Stabwoundz)
In December of 2000 SECTARIAN made a slight
change in course, new musical influences were added in the person of Rob
Besselink who took the keyboard
for his account from this day on. In the beginning of 2001 SECTARIAN again
went to search for a new front man that was found in the person of Raoul
Pinxt. His style of singing holds the middle between Crimson Glory en Nevermore.
SECTARIAN’s today’s style is still trash-/
death metal but with a slight melodic flavour. The new musical contributions
have the result that the band nowadays can be found in the line of
Testament, The Haunted , Crimson Glory, Nevermore, etc.
